Last week I was not posting on this blog, I rarely posted on social media, and didn't spend much time online at all. The Reason?
I needed to go dark.
In the theatre world, shows have dark nights where they do not perform in order to give the team a chance to rest and recuperate. It also allows for time to plan for the week ahead. In the business world, and especially in the world of entrepreneurship, we often never go dark. The idea is that if we slow down or stop that someone else will beat us to the punch. We believe that we can sleep when we're dead, etc.
Last week I realized that rest was needed.
So I took it.
Now I have a clear idea of where my company is heading over the next few months, I have a few new projects planned, and you'll all be seeing some announcements in the next few days about growth. This can't happen without going dark. I needed to take some time to look at the work I was doing in order to plan my next steps.
I'm still here. There was no major tragedy and I'm ready for what's next.
If you are feeling a little overwhelmed, I highly suggest choosing some time for yourself to go dark. We'll all still be here when you get back and look forward to what you come up with.
Excelsior!
Michael, great post that I'm sure a lot of us can relate to. For the hyper competitive entrepreneur, it can seem counter-productive to take a break. But in reality, not taking breaks can lead to burnout out, which can be way more counter-productive in the long-term. "Going dark" is a great way to rejuvenate and come back stronger than before!
