When you have something that you want to accomplish, having a strategy is very important. No one is going to argue with that. (I hope)
Sometimes though, you experience what I like to refer to as the strategy straight jacket.
The strategy straight jacket goes into effect when you decide that you are going to stick to a strategy no matter what. This means, ignoring your instincts and placing all of your faith in a system that someone else has told you will work.
Everyone who bought an ab roller knows exactly what I mean.
Just because a system has worked for someone else, does not necessarily mean that it will work for you. It's really important to take the bits and pieces of strategy that people offer and create your own unique system.
Many times I hear people say things like:
What are the things I need to do to raise money?
What is the best way to network?
How do I get someone important to talk to me?
To each of these points I can offer suggestions, but results will always vary depending on the person who is executing.
Nobody has all the answers in regards to solving our problems, but plenty of people have tools that we can use to help us solve them.
So the next time you are looking for a strategy, take a second to trust your instincts, ask big questions, and be open to the fact that sometimes the answers aren't easy.
No go out there and make something happen.
Excelsior!
