In your relationships.
Many times I run into people who ask me about finding investors and you all know how I feel about that idea.
The best investment you can make is in the time you spend with other people. I would not be able to do even a quarter of the things I've done if I hadn't first spent time with others listening to their challenges, looking for ways to help, and connecting other people. Sure this takes some time, but the relationships you develop from investing that time are the only things that end up supporting you when things start to get tough.
Take some time today to ask yourself how much time you've invested with your network. If it's not much, would it be any surprise that you'd have trouble finding folks to invest in you?
The good news is that you have plenty of time to make that network stronger. Take the time today to write down a list of 10 people who you haven't seen in a bit. Grab coffee or go to lunch with them and see how things are going. Ask how you can help, and most importantly, follow through on any promise you make.
Feel free to tell me how it went in the comments below.
