It's interesting how many times I have sat down with someone having a problem with their show, their business, their projects etc. and when we dig into the problem, we find that one person in the equation hasn't been listening.
Now some of you may scoff at this statement and say, "Well duh, Mike" but ask yourself the following questions:
1. When someone comes to you and tells you something has gone wrong, do you listen to the whole story or do you interrupt?
2. When a mentor advises you on a project are you thinking about what they are saying or what you're going to do next?
3. If you are having coffee with someone, are you taking in what they are saying to you, or are you preparing what you want to say next in your head?
Like it or not we've all been guilty of not listening and most likely have also been defensive about it.
Take the time today to check in with yourself and ask in each interaction how much you're listening. If you find yourself zoning out, stop and recalibrate.
