Excellent advice, Michael; thank you.

I'm opening a show tonight for a director with whom I've had a (mutually) rocky relationship in the past: he's too prosaic for me and I'm too woo-woo for him, neener, neener, neener.

But he has a knack for picking interesting and exciting projects -- we're doing Annie Baker's "Body Awareness" right now, which is a WONderful script, IMHO -- which continually sucker me into creating good (and plenty) scenery for his theatre company, so we continue to work together, having learned over the years to treat the occasional ill-fitting frisson as inspiration for constructive collaboration.

I'm going to copy your "instructions" and keep them handy for future review as needed. Thanks again.
